Latest firmware update promises 1080p upscaling, PSP Remote Play evolution and DLNA compatibility...


Firmware 1.80 is on its way to the PlayStation3 tomorrow, ushering a host of improvements and new features.

The most significant addition centres around the upscaling of DVD, PlayStation and PlayStation2 titles to full 1080p HD resolution. Normally associated with top-range DVD players, the feature allows PS3 owners to dramatically enhance their DVD collections and back-catalogue of PlayStation games, providing there's a HDMI compatible TV that's capable of supporting the resolution.

Further new features include the extension of Remote Play via a PSP to allow users to operate the PS3 anywhere in the world providing there's a wireless broadband connection available. This feature is dependant on the PSP being updated with firmware 3.50, which will be available to download towards the end of May.

The update also allows users to stream digital content to the PS3 from DNLA enabled devices in the home, as Sony continues to move forwards in its pursuit to make the PS3 the dominant home entertainment HUB.

Finally, the firmware update includes the ability to print images on the PS3 HDD or storage media to a selection of Epson printers connected via the USB slots.

this a good thing over 9 yrs it will happen folk wiil soon tire of wii's and the xbox(which is nearly all shooters, fun 4 a while, but ps3 does more in all ways

lol just how does sony expect the ps3 to sell more than the ps2 is a bit dumb considering the ps2 is still selling bucket loads across the world and with 120 more titles expected to hit the ps2 this year is it a real objective to shift over 140 milli... [ Read full comment... ]

not true. mine jumped 50 to 100 and i have had no problems since the update. i just hope that theres patches coming out for trophies soon...
