Sony Insists PS3 Target "Achievable" & Europe ASAP... News

Two million units still achievable but Sony's doesn't seem so sure about the European launch...
Despite continued issues and recent rumours of a further European delay, Sony Corp defiantly insisted that it would meet PS3 shipment targets before the end of the year.
Speaking to reporters in Tokyo, Sony Corp President Ryoji Chubachi admitted, "availability has been a bottleneck", before claiming, "... those targets are achievable..."
Initially Sony had hoped to ship 4 million units before the end of the year; however, well-documented part shortages led to this being cut to 2 million and Sony dropping out of its commitments regarding a worldwide launch. Instead, Sony have stuck to their projections of 6 million units by March 31st, which seems a little hopeful given that production issues have yet to be fully rectified and sales have yet to break through the half-million mark according to NexGen Wars.
During the first week of Christmas sales across North America, NPD Group Inc. suggests that Wii was outselling the PlayStation3 by a ratio of 2:1.
Regarding the continued rumours of another European delay to the PlayStation3, a slightly hesitant sounding Chubachi-san claimed the PS3 would launch across the territory "as soon as possible" - make of that what you will.
