Sony Drops 20GB PS3 In America News

SCEA confirms that the PlayStation3 will only be sold in the 60GB across the pond...
With reports that several retailers, including Sony's own SonyStyle, have stopped stocking the 20GB PlayStation3, Sony Computer Entertainment America has today announced that it will discontinue the lower-end model across North America.
Confirmation was made by SCEA to online industry publication Gamasutra, with SCEA Communications Director Dave Karraker explaining that the reason for the decision has been prompted by consumer demand - the 20GB model PlayStation3 was being outsold by its 60GB big brother by 10 to 1.
In an official statement, the publisher announced that: "...we [SCEA] offered two separate models of PlayStation 3 to meet the diverse needs and interests of our PlayStation fan base. Initial retail demand in North America was upwards of ninety percent in favor of the 60GB SKU, so we manufactured and shipped-in accordingly. Due to the overwhelming demand for the 60GB model from both retailers and consumers, we have ceased offering the 20GB model here in North America... [to] focus our current efforts on the more popular 60GB model."
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has only released the 60GB version on this side of the pond, and following today's decision by SCEA, it's surely now very unlikely that we'll ever get to see the 20GB model over here.
