Sony Denies Reports Of Further PS3 Delay For Europe News

UK representatives of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe deny online reports that a further delay for PS3 in Europe is coming...
There's little doubt that Sony Computer Entertainment were over-stretching themselves by announcing a five-territory near-simultaneous launch for PlayStation3 back at May's E3 2006...something that was obviously confirmed when they delayed the European and Australian launches a few months later.
Officially moved back to March 2007, online reports are today suggesting that Sony may have to further delay the release of the next-generation system.
UK-based Computer&VideoGames quotes an unnamed source as stating that a September 2007 launch is now looking increasingly likely for PlayStation3 in Europe, thanks to continued component shortages. When confronted by the suggestion however, representatives from Sony announced that they remained on track for a March 2007 launch in Europe.
If it turns out that a delay to September next year is necessary, then it'll be the second time in just a couple of years that Sony have had to hold back the launch of a system in Europe to the Autumn period. European gamers had to wait until September 2005 to finally get hold of their PSPs, nearly twelve months after the handheld launched in Japan, and six months after it arrived in North America. Such a move would be massively damaging to Sony's reputation and chances on this side of the Atlantic, falling just a matter of weeks ahead of Wii's first anniversary and Xbox 360's second anniversary in Europe.
