Europe left behind once more as low-yields in blue-laser diodes force a delayed launch...
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has today confirmed that the European launch of PlayStation3 has been delayed by four months from November 2006 to March 2007.
Blaming the low number of blue laser diodes needed for the all-important blu-ray drive in the system, Sony confirmed that all PAL territories including Russia, Australasia, Africa, and the Middle East, would experience the delay.
News of the delay is sure to bring back memories of the launch of the company's PSP handheld in Europe, which was also delayed from Spring 2005 to September 2005 in order to accommodate North American gamers.
Sony confirmed that the release of the next-gen system in North America and Japan would continue as planned on November 11th and 17th respectively.
So once again European gamers have been left languishing by Sony - perhaps next time they'll be more conservative and realistic about trying to release a system simultaneously...
We'll have more news shortly...
