Sony Confirms HDMI U-Turn For 20GB PS3 News

Sony announces that HDMI Output will be rolled out across both PlayStation3 SKUs...


When the full specifications of both standard and premium versions of PlayStation3 were revealed at E3 2006, there was the distinct lack of HDMI Output built into the 'cheaper' of the two systems.

Today however, Sony has confirmed a u-turn by announcing that HDMI Output will be added to both SKUs, together with news that the 20GB standard version will retail at 49,980 Yen (£225.53) - over £40 less than the previously announced 59,800 Yen (£269.84).

So what has triggered the decision? According to Sony's it's all down to "...the sharp increase in availability of flat displays supporting HDMI in the market," though that wouldn't account for the Japanese price drop...perhaps Wii have the answer???

Sony Computer Entertainment America is yet to confirm a similar price drop for the standard PlayStation3.

i own a ps3. infact i just came off playing it. for methe ps3 is gd for about 1hour, than i get bored and dnt go on it agen until the next day. there is nothing dat can keep me interested in the ps3. the games and pure love e, online always glithche... [ Read full comment... ]

this a good thing over 9 yrs it will happen folk wiil soon tire of wii's and the xbox(which is nearly all shooters, fun 4 a while, but ps3 does more in all ways

lol just how does sony expect the ps3 to sell more than the ps2 is a bit dumb considering the ps2 is still selling bucket loads across the world and with 120 more titles expected to hit the ps2 this year is it a real objective to shift over 140 milli... [ Read full comment... ]
