Sony Confirms Blu-Ray Disc Production News

Three-quarters of a million discs produced a month in the build up to the next-gen DVD launch...


Sony DADC, the optical media producing arm of Sony of America, has today confirmed that 750,000 blu-ray discs are currently being produced a month. The news comes as the build up to the launch of the PlayStation3 and the next-gen DVD format looms ever closer.

Production is expected to ramp up by October 2006 to around 5 million discs a month with six production lines capable of creating the 50GB dual-layer discs.

"Sony DADC is thrilled to be the leading optical disc manufacturing facility in the U.S. and have a full Blu-ray BD-ROM line ready for production," said Dieter Daum, President, Sony Disc & Digital Solutions. "Blu-ray is going to revolutionize the way consumers enjoy and interact with high definition entertainment content, and we are pleased to play a critical role in this important development."

Implementing blu-ray into the PlayStation3 is one three brand new technologies (along with the Cell processor and Nvidia's RSX GPU) for the next-gen console, which will be launched globally in November.

It's Final Fantasy VII sequel. That date is the same time as scheduled Square Enix DKS3713 August 2nd/3rd.

this a good thing over 9 yrs it will happen folk wiil soon tire of wii's and the xbox(which is nearly all shooters, fun 4 a while, but ps3 does more in all ways
