Sony Bolsters PSP UMD Movies News

Sony announces four new UMD movies set for release shortly after the PSP in America...
The future of the Sony PSP as the âWalkman of the 21st Centuryâ today received a boost, with confirmation that XXX, Hellboy, Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Once Upon a Time in Mexico, would be released across America weeks after the system launch.
Scheduled for release across America on April 19th 2005, further movies are set to be released monthly after this, although specific details on what are not yet known. Itâs also unclear as to what UMD movies will offer in terms of playback, although weâd expect similar features to those that are included on DVDâs.
The announcement is certainly welcoming for PSP owners and should help the system get of the ground, however with all films coming from Sony Pictures label, it does mask the fact that rival film companies have yet to commit to the new UMD format and thereâs only so long that Sony will be able to rely on its own back-catalogue.
Weâll have more information soon.
