Sony Announce PSX News

Sony announce another new hardware platform, this time it's an all-in-one home entertainment system - first details + pics...

Having enticed the gaming market with plans to release the PSP - Sonyâs entry into the handheld market â“ the Japanese electronic giant today announced details on a new hardware entry dubbed the PSX.

The PSX looks to be the illusive âHoly Grailâ that companies such as Sony have been trying to create for as long as we can remember, shaping up to be the all-in-one home entertainment system thatâs been promised but never delivered.

The PSX will feature DVD Recording functions along with 120GB Hard Disk Drive in order to record television. Itâs believed the system features the PS2 âEmotion Engineâ and that the system will be able to play PSOne and PS2 games, however this is not its main function.

The system has been designed with connectivity in mind and features a range of USB 2.0 and Memory Stick connections, suggesting that the recently announced PSP will link with the PSX in a big way; weâre also suspecting the ability to link up with a range of other Sony peripherals such as VAIOâs and the âHandyCamâ range.

Finally the PSX features an Ethernet connection and a TV/BS Tuner, suggesting the day when we can finally download movies to a set-top box may not be too far away.

Sony has yet to issue a price or release strategy, whilst weâve heard no word from the European divisions as of yet; you can bet weâll be keeping a close eye out for this one howeverâ¦
