Sly Raccoon 2: Band of Thieves Announced News

SCEA officially confirms that Sly and his buddies will be returning to the PS2, but we already told you that…

We first brought you details on āSly Racoon 2: Band of Thievesā last week, however SCEA today officially announced the title alongside the first screens.

Taking place two years after the events of the first title, players once again take control of Sly Cooper, however as we claimed last week thatās not the only playable character within the sequel. Both Bentley and Murray return this time around as full playable characters, and in an apparent effort to shake-up the platform genre the way that players take control of the characters sounds both promising and more importantly quite unique.

The three characters work together to complete various objectives, allowing the player to switch between them as the situation changes; for example, one sequence has the player moving Bentley and Murray through a plaza, as soon as they reach the proper position control switches to Sly who must pick-pocket a nearby guard to collect a key, having got the key you hand it to Bentley and Murray who use it to steal a truck.

Naturally the three different characters offer a range of variety, with Bentley providing the explosives and making use of a tranquiliser dart (heās not much of a fighter), whilst Murray takes control of the wheel and provides your muscle during the missions.

As we suggested last week, Slyās also got a number of new tricks up his sleeve, including the new pick-pocket manoeuvre and the ability to crawl through vents.

The game apparently places more emphasis on being a thief, whereas the original was an out-and-out platformer. Each mission within the game culminates in a heist of some sorts, whilst the main challenge comes from Dimitri the lounge lizard and his gang of oversized rats.

Having enjoyed the brief experience of the first title, weāre extremely looking forward to checking āSly Raccoon 2: Band of Thievesā in more detail; until then make sure to check out the first selection of screens, itās looking like a goodie.
