SimBin Clarifies Split Talk News

It's business as usual as GT Legends creator gears up to next-gen development...

SimBin, creators of the acclaimed GTR â“ FIA GT Racing Game and forthcoming GT Legends, today got in touch with TVG to clarify rumours surrounding a split in its core development team.

Whilst it does appear that a considerable number of the original distributed staff (believed to be 44) have left to front SimBinâs former Head of Development, Ian Bell, new venture Blimey Games, SimBin wanted to assure its fans that itâs very much business as usual as the team of racing pros gears up to console development alongside its core PC business.

Citing ânecessaryâ changes, Johan Roos Marketing Manager SimBin AB told TVG, âSimBin AB has gone through some necessary changes lately and we have NEVER before had so many talented developers onboard in SimBin AB, and had such a united board of directors with the goal of creating the most realistic games on the market.â

Roos exclaimed that the professional racing background that originally opened the opportunity to establish SimBin AB, including himself and CEO Henrik Roos amongst many others, remains to be the core nucleus of the developer and the reason why its games will remain connected to the real racing industry.

Confirming that clarification on the subject will occur shortly, Roos claimed âSimBin is going from strength to strength in a strategic reorganisation, but as misguiding information and websites has started to appear online there will be â¦several announcements from us soon on several subjects related to this topic.â

SimBin AB recently announced the expansion of a new studio based in Gothenburg Sweden, with the task of braking into development on the next-generation of consoles.

Assuming Ian Bellâs former role Tomas Karlsson will serve as Head of the Studio and COO, the 27-strong team - many joining from Digital Illusions - will be masterminded by Technical Director Peter Björklund, Producer Mikael Emtinger, Lead Programmer Jens Agby, Lead Artist Henrik âTudorâ Andersson, and Lead Game Designer Anders Hejdenberg.

The Gothenburg studio will collaborate alongside the Vara Studio and those from the original distributed team on future products, with the aim to both expand upon its distributed developers and work even closer.

Conversely Ian Bellâs Blimey Games has appeared to take away many of the key developers from SimBinâs former distributed network such as Technical Director Andy Garton, who spoke of the decision "While we all enjoyed our time at SimBin, and are immensely proud of the name we established and what it came to stand for, the time is right to move on."

Intriguingly the 44-man teams previous credits list GTR â“ FIA Racing GT Game, GT Legends and GTR2!

Promising a fully distributed development model it appears that SimBinâs growth and expansion of duties was the sole reason behind the split. Blimey Games want to concentrate solely on the task of making âgreat gamesâ having witnessed SimBin expand to handle various new tasks such as promotion and marketing, whilst further cited benefits of the distributed nature include an increased quality of life for employees, reduced overheads, and a continuous "assembly line" working method, where tasks are shared between individual developers seamlessly, 24 hours a day, across time zones. This distributed development also provides excellent personal benefits for the employees, including working from home, and the ability to set their own hourly schedules.

TVG will have more information on the situation soonâ¦
