Silent Hill V marks the first appearance of the acclaimed series for Next-Gen systems. The game follows Alex Shepherd, a war veteran returning home from an overseas tour of duty. Alex has taken compassionate leave following the news that his younger brother, Joshua, has gone missing. Initial investigations lead Alex to the small, insular community of Shepherd's Glen, before he finds himself in the mist-shrouded and seemingly empty streets of Silent Hill...

The new working title for Silent Hill V is 'Homecoming' and it's headed to Europe at the end of September...

Konami has announced that Silent Hill: Homecoming (the new working title for Silent Hill V) will be released across Europe in late September of this year. The next-gen title will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Silent Hill: Homecoming's story will feature a newcomer called Alex Shepherd to the unenviable lead character role. Alex returns home to Shepherd's Glen following the disappearance of his brother and, as I'm sure you've already figured out, this doesn't exactly end in a swift reunion followed by tea and crumpets for all.

Instead, Alex has to battle evil creatures, struggle for his grip on reality, figure out some weird nightmares (as if his waking life wasn't bad enough), while all the time keeping an eye on the dark corners of Shepherd's Glen for surprise monster attacks.

At least the good folks at The Collective have provided Alex with an all-new combat system and some fearsome weapons to battle said beasties with.

Last year it was confirmed that American outfit, The Collective, had taken on the developmental responsibilities of Silent Hill: Homecoming (V), thereby making it the first Silent Hill game (other than the PSP's Origins) to be developed outside of Japan and the Team Silent studio.
