Alternate-history strategy title set for release in Spring 2007; Soviets invade US as Berlin Wall remains standing...
Sierra Entertainment has today announced development on the strategy title, World in Conflict, which is currently in production at Massive Entertainment. Set for release in Spring 2007 on PC, World in Conflict follows a fictional timeline in 1989 where the Cold War never ended. Instead, the Soviets invade Europe in a last ditch effort to keep the Union together; as NATO responds, the USSR proceeds to invade the USA, leaving players attempt to reclaim the metropolises across America.
With a single-player campaign narrative designed by author Larry Bond, World in Conflict features real world units together from both sides of the conflict including tanks, planes, and troops, together with a completely destructible environment. Away from the campaign, gamers will also be able to engage in up to sixteen-player combat, both head-to-head an team-based missions, thanks to Massive's Massgate multiplayer server system.
Announcing the game, Cindy Cook, Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer for VU Games said "World in Conflict will take strategy games in a new, exciting direction, narrowing the gameplay focus on the best part - the intense action of modern warfare - and challenges gamers to work together to defeat the most powerful armies the world has ever seen...Massive Entertainment's critically acclaimed Ground Control series represented landmark advances in 3D technology. World in Conflict will continue that legacy and bring the strategy genre to the next generation."
"With World in Conflict, our focus has been to create the maximum number of tactical choices, climactic battles and other game-shifting events that occur during each scenario or multiplayer match," said Martin Walfisz, Founder and CEO of Massive Entertainment. "We've done this through a focus on the one thing people love most about strategy gaming - the combat."
We'll have more from World in Conflict shortly...
