Sega announce the online update to the popular Xbox racer...
Weâve always known that Sega intended to bring its Xbox racer Sega GT 2002 online; originally announced alongside the curiously named âSega GT 2002 Append Discâ plans were originally proposed to release an add-on disc with online features.
However that now appears to be scrapped as Sega of America recently confirmed Sega GT 2002 as a stand-alone title. Allowing six players to race against each other, Sega GT Online will contain over 160 vehicles from vintage roadsters to state-of-the-art prototypes from over 20 of the worlds biggest car manufacturers to collect, tune and race against.
Players will compete in a series of races to earn cash, with which to purchase new cars or tune their existing cars to perfection. The extensive car tuning option returns from Sega GT 2002, allowing players to customise everything from their engine size to their mufflers.
Players can then put their prize on the line as they bet their cars against each other in a race to see who is the best, or as Mike Fischer, Vice President Marketing, puts it:
"If you think you've got what it takes to be the best, you can put your hard-earned car on the line and square off with thousands of gamers online via Xbox Live. Hey, if you lose big you can always talk trash - or grovel and beg for your car back."
The game is currently in development at WOW Entertainment, and is scheduled for release later in the year; no word on what the âAppend Discâ was all about thoughâ¦
