Ubisoft confirms that Splinter Cell: Conviction has been put back until April 1st 2009 at the earliest...
After continued speculation in recent months, Ubisoft has today confirmed that Sam Fisher's fifth outing in the Xbox 360 exclusive, Splinter Cell: Conviction, has been delayed until the publisher's 2009/2010 fiscal year, which begins on April Fool's Day 2009.
News of the delay, spun by Ubisoft as a means to 'bolster' next year's line up, comes after the game's absence from its publishing schedules.
More optimistically, Ubisoft has revealed that its opening quarter performance in the 2008/09 fiscal year has seen sales rise year-on-year by over 25%, to 169 million Euros. The figure, which smashes through earlier expectations of 154 million Euros, has been attributed by the continued performance of Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Assassin's Creed (both of which saw PC releases in the last three months), together with Ubi's Games for Everyone label, and first quarter releases such as Haze.
The forecast for the second quarter, which lasts until September 30th, also puts Ubisoft on a solid footing for strong growth, with expectations of 26% increase in sales compared to the same period in 2007. This is based on the quarter's releases, which include Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway and SoulCalibur IV.
The first quarter of the fiscal year has been a busy one for Ubisoft, which has opened two new studios (in Kiev and Sao Paolo), and acquired the visual effects outfit, Hybride Technologies, the company responsible for the VFX on Sin City and 300.
