Take-Two Interactive confirms that an unauthorised leak of Rockstar Games' uncertified title came from within SCEE...
Getting your game leaked online isn't something new - Bungie had to endure it ahead of the mega-launch of Halo 2 back in 2004 for instance - but when the title is the controversial Manhunt 2, then that's something a little different due to its uncertified status in the UK. Until now, no-one has admitted to the leak, which occurred earlier in the Autumn but thanks to a little digging, politically-centric gaming site GamePolitics has finally revealed that the source was an employee of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.
According to the report, the employee has been identified and has had their contract terminated for the offence. In a statement to GamePolitics, representatives from Take-Two Interactive revealed:
"Take-Two Interactive has confirmed that a former employee of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has acknowledged his responsibility for the unauthorized online distribution of an unrated play-test version of Manhunt 2 submitted for the European PAL PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system."
An amended version of the game is due to go on sale in North America in time for Halloween - UK gamers just have to hope that the Video Appeals Committee will overturn the BBFC's decision not to award even this edition of Manhunt 2 an age rating.
