Take a peek and find out info on the GameBoy Advance version of EA Big’s flagship title.
SSX Tricky has been successful on the big consoles, so it makes sense for EA to expand the franchise to the GameBoy Advance. Quite whether the over the top nature of the sound, graphics and indeed gameplay will make it through the transition we don't know.
EA are using a fully three dimensional engine for the landscapes with characters being sprite based. This combination should work well on the GameBoy Advance screen as the characters will be animated smoothly and be small enough to be crisp. Having the landscape being three dimensional should allow the game to be pretty faithful to the console originals. However at the moment the draw distance isn’t that impressive, and although the frame-rate may well be smooth, draw distance could well be a factor in gameplay as the speed of the races is rather high and it’s nice to see what is coming up.
Sound too was a large part of the SSX Tricky, the music building up as you gain course position and the character voices. We would assume that the speech won't be a problem, but re-creating the high quality dynamic music that is on the big console versions will be interesting, and hopefully EA will succeed.
With all the characters from its big brothers as well as ten courses SSX Tricky could be a good little game, we have our concerns but we’ll have to wait and see.
