Capcom will release a version of Street Fighter IV for the Japanese arcade market during 2008...
Capcom's Japanese website has confirmed that Street Fighter IV will hit Japanese game arcades during 2008. The arcade console, which will provide fun for up to 2 players, is set to take the Street Fighter series back to its roots - the coin-op arcade machine.
Western gamers shouldn't hold their breath for a similar arcade release, however, because while the Japanese arcade market is still fairly strong, the heyday of Western arcades is long gone.
Unfortunately, this 2008 Japanese arcade release fails to shed light on a street date for the home-consoles. While the visuals evident in the SFIV trailers strongly suggest a release on either PS3 or Xbox 360 at least, exactly which formats SFIV will be released on still remains unclear.
So, what do we know? Street Fighter IV looks awesome and appears to do justice to its rich heritage with impressively stylised animations; Ryu and Ken will definitely feature, alongside a new character to the series, Crimson Viper, and we're prepared to sell our right lung for a chance to play it.
You can check out the first Japanese trailer for SFIV on TVG.TV right now!
