SEGA confirm their support for the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP, but THQ claim they’re not with Nintendo on this one...
Speaking after their recent financial earnings report, SEGAâs President Hisao Oguchi has confirmed that the company has been working on titles for the Nintendo DS since last year, and claimed that they were also ready to begin development on the PSP.
This certainly comes at a good time for Nintendo, when the general consensus is that they are struggling to generate third-party support; however as a worrying sign THQ have recently confirmed that they currently have no plans to develop for the system at this time.
The American publisher is widely seen as a major player on the GameBoy format, enjoying a market share that is only beaten by Nintendo; certainly not having their support makes the suggestion that Western developers and publishers have yet to get the full lowdown on the format from Nintendo. THQ have confirmed that development on PSP titles has already begun, with developers currently working on software emulators due to a lack of official software development kits for the format.
Both the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP are scheduled to be released towards the end of the year; it will certainly be an interesting time, despite both companies claiming that they are targeting different markets.
