Barbarians set to invade as SEGA appease a legion of marauding PC fanatics...
In a move that should appease the disgruntled PC fans, SEGA Europe and SEGA America today announced plans to publish the first expansion pack to the hugely popular Rome: Total War. The news comes after SEGA and The Creative Assembly announced plans to extend into the console market with Spartan: Total Warrior, a move that many of Total War fanatics questioned heavily.
âBarbarian Invasion will contain a multitude of new features comprising of enough content to fulfil a full PC title release,â said Tim Ansell, Managing Director, The Creative Assembly. âCA have always aspired to make games for the fans and we have addressed the feedback from consumers to create the ultimate Rome experience.â
âWe are delighted to have this superb title on our release schedule,â added Matt Woodley, Creative Director at SEGA. âIt further demonstrates both CAâs ability to deliver the best games in the genre, and SEGAâs commitment to develop the Total War brand and maintain itâs global status.â
Rome: Total War â“ Barbarian Invasion is scheduled for release across both regions in September 2005, and takes place 200 years after the main campaign featured within Rome: Total War. The last Emperor of a unified Rome has died and his successors in Rome and Constantinople are now uneasy allies and rivals for power, while the barbarians are massing along the borders and in some cases living in Roman occupied territory.
The expansion pack includes over 100 new units and an updated European map that reflects the vast changes since the events of Rome: Total War. Players can take the choice of ripping apart Rome by leading hordes of barbarians or attempt to defend the Roman Empire as leader of one of the two former Romes â“ the Western and Eastern Empires.
New gameplay features include the Hordes, Character Loyalty and the Roman Civil wars, while barbarians can relocate to a new land after loosing their last settlement, otherwise known as âBarbarian Migrationâ. 10 new playable factions feature within the game alongside an expanded barbarian tech-tree and improved battle AI and tactics. Finally The Creative Assembly promise the integration of night battles, which should provide the scope for tactical changes and hugely atmospheric battles.
Weâll have more on Rome: Total War â“ Barbarian Invasion soon.
