Sony reveals a creative take on community based game on its way to the PS3...
Following the GDC unveiling of "Home", Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) also took the opportunity to reveal LittleBigPlanet, an imaginative, community based game currently in development at Media Molecule.
LittleBigPlanet throws players onto a blue and green planet scattered with individual plots, using their character's ability to play, create, and share with other PS3 gamers. Exploring areas, overcoming obstacles, collecting bits and pieces, and solving puzzles with a combination of brains and teamwork, will increase a character's creative skills to begin creating and modifying their surroundings. With enough practise players can design, shape, build objects and entire locations in the stylised child-book world for others to explore. To carry out these actions, SCEI promises an intuitive setup without any of the complexities usually associated with level editors.
"We were confident that PS3 would be the platform to lead the way in creative gaming, and LittleBigPlanet brings this concept to life spectacularly," said Phil Harrison, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios. "By giving players the power to shape and share an entire virtual world via PLAYSTATION Network, we've created the space for PS3 owners to realize their creativity and craft their own unique gameplay experience."
SCEI will offer a demo of the game via the PlayStation Network during the autumn; however, the final game is still time off with a scheduled release at some stage in 2008.
