The PSP becomes a traveller's tool and holiday gizmo with further details on the European release of Talkman...
Although original PSP titles may be a little on the scarce side Sony's handheld is set to add a further feather to its bow with the first specific details on the European release of Talkman.
Aiming to allow PSP owners to "make new friends, break down barriers, promote world peace and travel" thanks to a multilingual bird named Max, Talkman features six different languages - French, English, German, Spanish, Italian and Japanese - with more than 3000 crucial phrases.
Courtesy of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) Talkman will be released for the PSP across Europe and Australasia in May and comes equipped with a special microphone.
Wannabe linguists and those left baffled on holiday simply need to select a language and a scenario that best fits, such as hotel foyer, restaurant, nightclub or ski slopes. Say what you want translated into the microphone or simply select a phrase from the drop-down menu, and Max will translate this into the language of your choice; simply repeat the phrase yourself or just hold up the PSP to any foreigner and let Max do the hard work. With the ability to automatically reverse languages you'll also be able to deal with any smart-arse replies, taking a holiday will never be the same again...
In addition Talkman features two mini-games designed to improve your accent and understanding. The Pronunciation Game finds players having to imitate the pronunciation of essential phrases, whilst the Listening Game challenges players to listen to a phrase and identify the correct translation.
Finally a variety of handy tools are included such as the Voice Memo function to record and playback other people's voices; the Unit Converter to ensure you're never ripped off on the foreign market; an Alarm Mode which can only be switched off by identifying the correct translation and the Friend Map which allows you to record a friend's voice and store it on a world map.
