The legal wrangling begins as Sony targets the online retailers...

Following on from the recent events that saw Sony Computer Entertainment Europe issue Cease and Desist orders to online retailers that have been selling imported PSPs into the UK and Europe, comes the news that the company have began legal proceedings in the British High Court citing âloss of revenue and copyright infringement.â

High Street retailers in the UK are already beginning to sell third-party peripherals, even though the PSP is still ten weeks away from a European launch, and the press release, made on behalf of UK based e-tailer ElectricBirdLand also claims that retailers across the continent are selling imported PSPs.

In what so far (publicly at least) appears to be one small company's crusade to take on the might of Sony, ElectricBirdLand's Managing Director Dan Morelle said, "Sony refuses to admit that the UK gaming industry already has its finger prints all over the PSP and importers are selling to Sony stores, Sony developers and Sony staff. The company's action against small independent retailers is just another indication of the bully tactics it chooses to deploy whenever it faces a challenge to its industry monopoly...As a small family run business, I cannot afford the expensive lawyers that Sony has access to at a click of its fingers so I will have to represent. It seems Sony has forgotten the admirable words of its founder Masaru Ibuka who once said "We shall eliminate any unfair profit seeking practices and constantly emphasise activities of real substance."

UMD already dead. Sony has nothing to lose by adding
SD stuff on the Blu-ray discs for PSP viewing.

good point but i think i would only pay about $250 and not bother with the touch screen.with mobile tec in there you could play games over the net any time any where but only at a reasonable price of course.

Sony should have added a 40 or 80 gig internal hard drive like the ipod to the psp instead of making it thinner and lighter! With the extra space it would be

JAZZ-1991, what the hell are you talking about? The PSP redesign is 19% slimmer and 33% lighter than the original PSP. The buttons are more responsive, it supports tv out, has twice the RAM. There is no need to make it any smaller, it feels great in ... [ Read full comment... ]
