Game Republic's beautiful Samurai action/adventure confirmed for Europe...
When such a legendary name as Yoshiki Okamoto decides to take the plunge and start-up a new independent venture, itās probably worth jumping along for the ride.
Responsible for such franchises as Streetfighter 2, Resident Evil and Devil May Cry while under the employment of Capcom, Okamoto-san has helped to provide us with some of our most enjoyable moments throughout videogame history and so weāve kept a close eye on Game Republicās first title, Genji.
Currently in development for the Playstation2, we took a brief look at the title during last yearās Tokyo Game Show and came away suitably impressed. So itās good news for PS2 fans that Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has today confirmed publishing duties throughout the region.
A beautifully cinematic, sword-wielding Samurai adventure based upon a popular Japanese legend, Genji presents players with the role of the historic hero Genkuro Yoshitsune or his trusted companion, the warrior-monk Benkei. The two set out on a mission to release the oppressed from the evil forces of the warlord Kiyomori and restore the Genji dynasty to power.
Taking obvious influences from wi-fu movies such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and House of Flying Daggers, Genji in motion is a beautifully crafted art, with an incredible attention to detail that helps to bring the legend to life.
Although our previous occasion with the game was all too short, itās fluid combat and masterful camerawork marked Genji as something to keep an eye out for. In addition, Game Republic promises slick and deadly manoeuvres, combos, special moves, unique features such as the āMindās Eyeā and advanced AI that transforms every battle into carefully choreographed kung-fu combat.
Genji is expected to be a major title for the Playstation2 at E3ā05; weāll have further information soon.
