SCEE Confirms Forbidden Siren 2 Release News

Sony gets ready to scare us again with further details and confirmation of the European release...
Although playing SCEi's stylish Forbidden Siren was akin to watching something from David Lynch, i.e. you're not entirely sure what's going on, there's little denying it knew exactly how to petrify players and put the likes of Resident Evil, Silent Hill and even TECMO's Project Zero to shame.
We enjoy getting the crap scared out of us at TVG, so confirmation of a European release in summer 2006 along with further details on the plot and the many enhancements being made to the sequel have come just at the right time. Intriguingly the setting is identical to that featured in the forthcoming feature-length film, although it's not yet known whether this will receive a theatrical release outside of Japan.
Set on the island of Yamijima (Island of Darkness), the story begins with a group of characters washed up on the island's shore after their boat is shipwrecked in a violent storm. Unbeknown to them all the previous inhabitants of the island mysteriously disappeared in a blackout twenty-nine years earlier.
Until now the events of that ill-fated evening remain a mystery, however the sounds of sirens across the island awake the Shibito (living dead) and the Yamibito (people of the dark), unleashing a fight for survival as the survivors attempt to unearth the secret of the island - could the Shibito and Yamibito be all that's left of the island's original inhabitants, will a polar bear keep players on their toes at all times???
To survive on the island players need to use light to their advantage which both the Shibito and Yamibito are sensitive towards, although in opposing ways. The Yamibito require lights to be turned on to defeat them, whilst the Shibito need players to eliminate light by turning off lights and smashing street lamps. Further means to avoiding or defeating the Shibito are by hiding in the darkness, throwing objects to detract them, using a variety of weapons or running them down with abandoned vehicles.
Introduced within its predecessor, the innovative "Sight-Jacking" feature makes a return with the sequel, providing the chance to see events from the eyes of the Shibito and Yamibito. This time around players can also see the game through the eyes of animals, whilst also witnessing past characters from past viewings.
One of the biggest criticisms regarding the original was its inaccessible structure, which appears to be an area of importance for the team behind the game with the promise of a map, a range of difficulty levels, enhanced tutorials, hint displays and an alert system to warn whenever an enemy draws near.
TVG will have more on Forbidden Siren 2 soon...
