Sony announces product recall with uncanny similarities to the situation faced by Microsoft...
Following on from a widespread problem over Xbox power chords, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today followed Microsoftâs suit by issuing a voluntary recall of certain AC adaptors supplied with the slimline PS2 model.
Certain AC adaptors identified as manufactured between August 2004 and December 2004, supplied with slimline models SCPH70002, 70003 and 70004 may overheat and cause injury to consumers.
As a precautionary measure, SCEE has taken the decision to recall all affected AC Adaptors in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Australasia; those affected simply need to visit www.ps2ac.com and arrange for a replacement. Consumers can also contact a dedicated helpline which will be published in national newspapers commencing Wednesday 14th September.
As a precautionary measure SCEE advise unplugging affected PS2 models from the mains power supply and to discontinue use until a replacement is provided.
The parallel between the situation and that faced by Microsoft are uncannily similar and has to ask the question exactly why this has happened again; weâll have further information soon.
