In conjunction with Nike Motionworks, SCEE confirm an innovative physical exercise title that will have us healthy after all...
Itâs been in the pipeline for a considerable time now, as today Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) confirmed a new title for the EyeToy in conjunction with Nike Motionworks.
EyeToy: Kinetic is dubbed as an innovative physical exercise title, which allows players to improve not only their general fitness, but also reactions, posture, balance, breathing and all-round body toning and conditioning â“ proving once and for all that videogames arenât necessarily bad for your health and hopefully rectifying some criticism during these âfatâ obsessed times we live in.
âWe are thrilled to be collaborating with the NIKE MOTIONWORKS team on our first fitness title for PlayStation 2,â said Jamie Macdonald, Director, SCE London Studio. âAs PlayStation expands into this new arena, we are proud to have the support of the leading sports brand behind us. Nike represents a passion for sports and fitness and this is the spirit that lies at the heart of EyeToy:Kineticâ.
Nike Motionworks team of fitness training experts provided key assistance during the early stages of development on the title, on such aspects such as the key exercises and movements to be included in the game and also assisting in the development of the warm-up, stretching and toning sequences and the Personal Trainer mode.
âEyeToy: Kinetic was an interesting project for the NIKE MOTIONWORKS team to be involved with, as it is targeting an audience that we are very familiar with through a completely different medium,â said Albert Shum, Nikeâs Director of Global New Business Innovations. âWe are continually focused on ways to inspire young people to be active and we think video games may provide another long-term access point for this.â
The game comes complete with a new âWide Angled Lensâ to attach to the EyeToy peripheral, enabling the playerâs whole actions to easily fit within the screen and also enabling them to physically interact with the environment around them.
EyeToy: Kinetics offers a wide range of exercises for playerâs to partake in, with various activities broken down into different zones.
Aero Motion and Combat zones help to increase the playerâs overall fitness, and has been inspired by moves and stances from activites such as Tai Kwan Do, Modern Dance, Kick Boxing, Aerobics and Karate. The Mind and Body zones focus on breathing, concentration and flexibility, taking inspiration from Yoga and Tai Chi, with the end result claimed to leave playerâs ârelaxed, yet with their body fully conditionedâ. Finally the Toning zone allows playerâs to tone specific muscles utilising slow and refined movements.
The announcement of the release has certainly been timed perfectly, coming a day after the Health Secretary revealed a radical public smoking ban and professed the general population to be in a bad state when it comes to health â“ EyeToy: Kinetic should become a huge success for Sony outside of the conventional gaming videogames audience and continue to develop the EyeToy brand.
EyeToy: Kinetic is scheduled for release in early 2005, just in time for all those New Year Resolutions; weâll have more information soon.
