SCEE "Looking Into" Wipeout HD Epilepsy Reports News

Chris Leyton

23/07/2008

Chris Leyton

Could the real reason behind Wipeout HD's delay be down to epilepsy concerns...

Following cryptic allusions to the possible reason behind the Wipeout HD delay, reports emerging today suggest a far more surprising basis than the technical issue previously claimed.

Allegations that the game has suffered from a failed epilepsy test have surfaced, hence the confusion and vague comments surrounding the exact cause.

Of course this brings a number of further questions:

- How do they test for this?
- What does Wipeout HD do that's so different to previous Wipeout games (frame rate?)
- Should the preview builds that SCEE have sent us come with a health warning?

When we put these questions to SCEE we were informed that they were looking into it, but have failed to offer any further information at the time of writing.

Read into that what you will.

Looks like pilot assist in online is fine, it slows you down a lot if you take corners sharply, so those who can handle not using it will actually have a slight advantage

Accessiblity is never a word that should never even be mentioned in the same breath as Wipeout - who are you a Sony marketing guy or something.

Beyond the online issues with the Pilot Assist though (shouldn't have it), Wipeout HD is as good as I w... [ Read full comment... ]

I'm with you about the pilot assist - BUT, feel that it should NOT be an option when playing ONLINE! Who ever heard of a public online game where you are able to use a handicap against others that don't know it. They should limit your speed a tad if... [ Read full comment... ]

Typical gamer posturing to sugar off the pilot assist in the review. If it makes the game more accessible, what's wrong with that? Just turn the damn thing off and quit moaning.

I pine for this game - my yearning only sated by the thought of the split-screen - I'd be fine if I only knew the release date. Any clues?

At least give us a online, multi-player, one-trach DEMO of the game in it's curent version! As long as the game supports the headsets and online chat function, if we hear an opponent hit the floor in the convulsing throws of a grand-mal seizure, we ... [ Read full comment... ]
