Rugby 2004 Screens News

About as different a sport from golf as you can get, but still using balls, admittedly not even round balls, but still balls...
We can't remember playing a decent rugby game since Codemasters released Jona Lomu Rugby on the PlayStation; plenty of American football games that are great to play, but not much rugby. We assume it's something to do with the more fluid nature of Rugby demanding that you get a good system for rucks and malls going, when they happen in the NFL games, the down is over, so no need to worry about them.
These screenshots actually look quite good, a bit rough around the edges perhaps, but the players, as far as we can tell from still screens, look to be doing the right things in the right places. Whilst itās still too early to say how the game plays, if the collision detecting, animation, passing, rucks and mauls are all implemented well then this could provide an enjoyable game of Rugby, just without the bruises.
That's a lot of ifs, but the screenshots show some good attention to detail, for instance check out the cities behind the stadiums. Small as it may seem, it does help to get rid of the impression that you're playing in a stadium that's just on it's own somewhere.
No word on whether this will be integrated with the BIO system, this isn't in the same league sales wise as Tiger, Fifa, or Madden, but one step at a time, it would be nice to just have a fun Rugby game.
