The story of first contact with an alien set to appear on Nintendo DS this Autumn courtesy of Rising Star...

Following the release of updated retro franchises such as Space Invaders and Bubble Bobble, Rising Star Games has announced the development of Contact for Nintendo DS. An RPG that follows the story of a boy called Terry and his search to find the remains of a power-source needed by an alien life form known as the Professor, Contact is set to enjoy a somewhat unique visual style, bringing pixel art together with more realistic images. During the course of the game, players will find themselves facing a number of sub-quests and adversaries with their own desire to find the power-source.

In a blend of reality and fiction, the Professor talks to the players themselves, commenting on Terry's progress through the adventure, though Rising Star describe the experience as going beyond that, suggesting that by playing Contact gamers will be questioning the very nature of the title.

Martin DeFries, COO, Rising Star Games enthuses: "Contact is a real step forward for the genre. Conceptually, it's on a different level to anything else on the DS and is truly the gem we hold in our 2006 portfolio."

Contact is currently in development at Rising Star's parent company Marvelous Interactive and Grasshopper Manufacture (who helped on the development of Capcom's Killer7), and is set for an Autumn 2006 release on Nintendo DS; we'll have more news shortly...
