Retailer Shuts Shop After Sony Lawsuits News

Lik-Sang confirms it's to close following multiple law-suits from Sony Computer Entertainment...
Online retailer Lik-Sang has today closed its doors to new orders and has ceased operations following Sony Computer Entertainment's lawsuits in London. All existing orders are to be cancelled and refunded, with Lik-Sang also confirming that it's currently speaking to PayPal and global banks about working out any outstanding store credits.
Recent comments by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe have pointed out an incompatibility of safety standards as the prime reason behind the lawsuits, however Lik-Sang disputes such claims - imported PSPs come with CE-certified official Sony adaptors and conform to European and UK standards.
In a statement, Lik-Sang's former Marketing Manager Pascal Clarysse, commented, "Today is Sony Europe victory about PSP, tomorrow is Sony Europe's ongoing pressure about PlayStation 3. With this precedent set, next week could already be the stage for complaints from Sony America about the same thing, or from other console manufacturers about other consoles to other regions, or even from any publisher about any specific software title to any country they don't see fit. It's the beginning of the end... of the World as we know it."
"Blame it on Sony. That's the latest dark spot in their shameful track record as gaming industry leader. The Empire finally 'won', few dominating retailers from the UK probably will rejoice the news, but everybody else in the gaming world lost something today."
In what could be argued is a breach of the Data Protection Act, Lik-Sang also released the names of several Sony Europe executives who benefited from the import company. Ray Maguire (Managing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Ltd), Alan Duncan (UK Marketing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Ltd), Chris Sorrell (Creative Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Ltd), and Rob Parkin (Development Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited) are just some of the people who are alleged to have imported a Japanese PSP over nine months before the handheld was officially released - incidentally they also received free Lik-Sang mugs with their order.
Sony execs weren't the only ones who couldn't wait for the heavily delayed European launch of the PSP; TVG would like to express its gratitude for a couple of units that kept our Christmas' entertaining back in 2004.
Today's news marks the end of a prolonged battle between Lik-Sang and Sony, but the Hong Kong-based company isn't the only so-called 'Grey Importer' and it's unclear whether others will also face further action from the Japanese giant. Also, if Grey Imports are frowned upon by Sony, why make the PlayStation3 and PSP software region-free???
We'll have more news shortly...
