The rumours refuse to die, as Activision become the latest name linked to the UK developer...
Rumours suggesting that all may not be well between Nintendo and Rare have been circulating wildly in the last few months, firstly there was talk of a Microsoft buy-out, then the infamous Rare Christmas card which depicted other consoles hinting at multi-platform development. Today CVG suggested that Activision are the latest name to enter the fray, and that a deal may already be in place!!!
Rareās support for Nintendo has been unquestionable since the Japanese giant purchased a stake in the UK developer back in 1995. Many believe that the only reason the N64 survived so long was because of the likes of Goldeneye, Banjo Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64 and other Rare hits. This latest move will indeed shake up the industry if indeed it proves to be true.
The murmurings have been steadily increasing over the last few months, one rumour suggests that the companies are drawing near to the end of a five-year agreement, and that neither company is keen to extend that. With a variety of key titles planned for the GameCube, including the likes of Starfox Adventures, Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero, surely any move will place doubt on the GameCubeās future. CVG claim that a PS2 version of Starfox Adventures: Dinosaur Planet has been rumoured for quite awhile, however our understanding is that Nintendo own the sole rights to Starfox.
Weāll have more information as soon as this develops.
