Publishers Air PS3 Launch Caution News

Sony's strategy of holding back final technical details of the next-gen system may hinder its launch line-up...
Speaking to global financial news outlet Bloomberg, a number of videogame publishers have today warned that the launch line up of titles for PlayStation3 in November may be hindered because Sony has been late in producing final technical specifications for the console.
Some publishers such as THQ are even reported to have said that PlayStation3 versions of games such as The Sopranos may only be produced when it knows more information about the console. Others however haven't been quite so cautious; Ubisoft has said that whilst their initial titles for the system won't take full advantage of the potential power the situation will mirror that of the Xbox 360 at its launch at the end of 2005.
The fact is that it does take some time for developers to get into their stride at the start of a new generation, and we won't really be seeing the consoles realise their full potential for some time yet. That said, Sony's decision to spring the Dualshock 3 controller's motion control system onto developers (and the world) at last week's E3 will no doubt leave some studios wondering how they'll implement it into their launch titles at the end of the year, and is an example of the held back technical specs of the machine.
