Want a placement at Team Cambridge or interested in a career in the videogames industry? Then you’ll need to check this out.
SCEE recently announced plans to host a Primal Art exhibition at London's Institute of Contemporary Arts; weâve uncovered a few more details on the event, if youâre interested in a career in videogames you simply cannot miss out.
The actual exhibition is designed to be of inspiration to anyone considering a creative career in the video games industry, art, design and media students and anyone with an interest in creativity, contemporary graphic art, and video games.
Inspired by work on the forthcoming PlayStation2 adventure 'Primal', Primal Art will feature useful seminars and an exhibition of fascinating graphic art from its makers, the BAFTA Award-winning SCEE Studio Cambridge and from talented students at some of the UK's leading universities.
Primal Art will take place between 6th - 9th April 2003 at the ICA.
Running alongside the exhibition will be four seminars:
- Women in Video Games Industry outlining the new avenues available to women outside of the traditional PR/marketing roles.
- Careers Surgery offering practical advice to students on what you need to succeed in the video games business and how to present your portfolio.
- The Cultural Heritage of Video Games looking at the convergence of art, literature, films and music within the video game environment.
- The Role of the Artist in Video Game Development, a master class offering first hand insight into the development of a game from initial concept to finished product.
In addition the exhibition will house a competition for one student and one member of the general public to win the opportunity to display their work at the exhibition; with the winner in the student bracket gaining a work placement at Studio Cambridge!
Chris Sorrell, creative director at SCEE Studio Cambridge, says: "Primal Art is a world first. The crossover in creative presentation has never been so evident as it is today and never has it been so clearly manifested as it will be at the ICA. We hope that this initiative helps to inspire a new generation of talent so that video games continue to break the boundaries of imagination with compelling design and evocative imagery."
Philip Dodd, director of the ICA, says: "The ICA's delighted to be a host to such a fascinating event. It crosses the boundaries between art and technology, culture and business. It's one of the forms the future will take."
More information on the exhibition and competition details can be found at www.primal-art.com, however this isnât expected to go live until Monday 17th February.
