Prey Goes Gold News

2K Games has today confirmed that 3D Realms' Prey has gone gold ahead of a release in Europe on July 14th. Last week a PC demo of the FPS was released, but a planned simultaneous launch on Xbox 360 was held back and remains unavailable. At present 2K has confirmed that the Xbox 360 version will be released on Marketplace 'shortly'.
The development of Prey is perhaps one of the most turbulent in the industry, with production beginning as far back as the mid-1990s. Numerous mis-starts and years in development hell meant that it wasn't until April 2005 that 3D Realms confirmed the game was still coming. Now it seems, the wait will be over in a little under three weeks.
"Prey raises the bar for first-person shooters and is a must-have game for the summer," said Christoph Hartmann, President, 2K. "Its unique features, crisp graphics and in-depth storyline make it a truly revolutionary game."
