Capcom's countdown to a big announcement this Wednesday fills the air with mystery...
A quick trip down to the Capcomunity website reveals a main banner under the heading "Prepare yourself," with a countdown timer that suggests the publisher will be making a big announcement this Wednesday at 9am.
Meanwhile, Capcom's Senior Director of Strategic Planning and Research, Christian Svensson, has responded to fierce criticism from PlayStation 3 owners on the Capcomunity forums after Monster Hunter 3 was dropped on PS3 in favour of the Nintendo Wii last week. Fielding criticism that Capcom was losing PS3 fans, Svensson said: "Let's see how they feel at the end of next week about us."
This suggests that the announcement may well be for a PS3 exclusive, or timed exclusive title. A quick trawl through US trademarks brings up three as yet unheard of titles that Capcom has registered for games during this year (only last week for Dark Void): Shade, Dark Void and Lost Planet Colonies. Capcom even went as far as to register Shade for a long list of merchandising spin-offs including TV shows and movies, graphic novels, toys and board games.
Could Lost Planet Colonies see the Lost Planet series vault onto the PS3 from its Xbox 360 stomping grounds? Hopefully come Wednesday morning all of our questions will be answered. Of course, if it does turn out to be one of these three, TVG will be smugly watching from the sidelines and reminding everybody that we called it.
