Nintendo rub hands as Ruby and Sapphire fly off the shelves in the first weekend of release…
Launched on the 25th of July across Europe Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire have sold over 500,000 copies, and helped GameBoy Advance and SP sales by 50%. Not bad going.
Pokemon has sold about 110 million copies since it the first game was released in 1996, which translates to about $15 billion in retail sales. Nintendo are obviously very happy with how the franchise has performed, and continues to perform.
Regardless of how powerful the PlayStation Portable may be, it is still abundantly clear that Nintendo can do a great deal of business with their games on their hardware, and that suits them just fine.
