E3'05: Sony announces next-gen PlayStation; images & details inside...


During a Press Conference held earlier today, Sony Computer Entertainment revealed the next-gen PlayStation.

As previously reported the PlayStation 3 is powered by an advanced Cell processor, jointly developed by IBM, Sony Group and Toshiba Corporation. PlayStation 3 will also utilize BD-ROM technology (Blu-Ray Disc ROM) with a maximum storage capacity of 54GB, offering high-definition quality. PlayStation 3 will also be Backwards compatible with PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games.

We shall have more information on PlayStation 3 shortly; in the mean-time here are a few comments from Industry representatives on the PlayStation 3 announcement, as well as a full system specification.

"SCEI has continuously brought innovation to the world of computer entertainment, such as real-time 3D computer graphics on PlayStation and the world's first 128 bit processor Emotion Engine (EE) for PlayStation 2. Empowered by the Cell processor with super computer like performance, a new age of PLAYSTATION 3 is about to begin. this a good thing over 9 yrs it will happen folk wiil soon tire of wii's and the xbox(which is nearly all shooters, fun 4 a while, but ps3 does more in all ways
