Sony undercuts the price of Xbox1 with immediate effect...
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has confirmed a reduction in the price of the PlayStation2 across the territory to 129.99 Euros or £94.99 in the UK with immediate effect. Over forty million units have been shipped throughout Europe, though globally the system has sold over one hundred and six million.
David Reeves, President of SCEE said, "With this attractive new price point and a vast portfolio of over 2,200 software titles including social gaming blockbusters such as EyeToy, SingStar and Buzz!, we believe there has never been a better time to join the community of PlayStation 2 users."
"At this new price point of 129 Euros, the market leading PlayStation 2 should remain the computer entertainment system of choice for an even wider and more diverse audience for many years to come."
The new price of the PS2 undercuts the RRP of Microsoft's debut Xbox of £99.99, which has floundered significantly in the run up to, and subsequent release of, Xbox 360 towards the end of 2005.
In addition to the console, the cost of Memory Cards for the platform will also be reduced to £19.99.
