Speaking to the BBC, a slightly somber Peter Molyneux let his own personal failures gush forth in a candid insight into his and the industry's misgivings.
Jumping onto the 'more gamers' bandwagon, Molyneux admits that's he's failed in the past because he's not been able to attract a larger audience to the joy of videogames.
"It's a failure borne out of myself as a games designer and creator and indeed the wider games industry," he claimed. "For making games that only appeal to a small part of world. The number of people playing games is going up, but it's going up slowly.
Revealing that his major flaw in the past was mistaking faults in the game with the need to add further complexity, Molyneux talks openly about the one-button combat system being employed in Fable 2 in an attempt to appeal to a wider audience. Molyneux stresses that in his opinion today simplicity doesn't mean a reduction in quality, it just means your partner might actually pick up the pad and join you in co-op.
Fortunately the failure has sparked his interest in making sure he's achieves this holy grail for videogame developers, suggesting that Fable 2 will be the RPG to units hardcore fanatics and casual newcomers to the genre.
Naturally it could always be argued that the Molyneux's games in the past have epitomised hardcore gaming, let's admit it the guy single-handedly coined the God genre.
