Mercenaries 2 confirmed for release on the Playstation3; bigger and more explosive then ever before...
Unveiling Mercenaries 2: World in Flames at E3, Pandemic today confirmed the title as a Playstation3 exclusive, which takes advantage of all what the next-generation hardware has to offer.
Set in Venezuela, where a power-hungry tyrant has seized control of the oil supplies, sparked an invasion and turned the vast region into a free-fire zone. Mercenaries 2 promises the latest and most dangerous civilian and military weapons, along with shiny new sports cars, giant cargo helicopters. A new grappling hook feature allows you to target airbourne vehicles to take control of them, whilst Pandemic marks a return to the shoot anything, destroy anything, blow sh*t up policy that made the original such a success.
Delivering on their promises, Mercenaries 2 features co-op support for two players, along with the fact that water is no longer an insurmountable object, with players able to travel over or under water, commandeer watercraft or swim to traverse oceans, rivers and lakes.
"The combination of next generation hardware and this open-world setting was an invitation to set the world on fire and that's exactly what we're letting gamers do," said Josh Resnick, president, Pandemic Studios. "The 'play with fire' feature means fire is no longer just an effect, but a whole new method of destruction -- one of the mercenaries' favorite new toys."
"Shoot holes in the sides of fuel trucks and watch the oil spill under the feet of unsuspecting enemies and light it on fire with a match," continued Resnick. "It's only one of the infinite possibilities in a world where you make the rules because you are your own boss."
In charge of your own company players have the ability to recruit other mercenaries that you meet within the game, working for the highest bidder in a similar style to before. Promising a game world much larger then before, expect further coverage on Mercenaries 2 shortly...
