Features gone missing from the final specification of Sony’s Home Entertainment system…
The release of the PSX in Japan is rapidly approaching, however the latest opinion on the format appears to be one of disappointment. Judging from initial reports it appears that the PSX has dropped a number of features that were originally intended to appear.
Omissions that were noticed in the latest version include:
- No support for DVD+RW
- No support for CD-R (although audio discs on CD-R supported)
- The ability to display GIF and TIFF image formats
- No support for MP3 sound files.
- DVD Burn Speed reduced from 24x to 12x.
- No support for Playstation BB.
A Sony representative claims that a number of these features will be available as a firmware upgrade for no cost later in the year, and claimed that the most important priority was to release before the end of the year.
