Information comes to light on a previous attempt by Sony to capture the handheld market...

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun recently shed some light on a previous handheld project undertaken by Sony, before last monthâs announcement of the PSP.

Itâs claimed that development started in 1998 on the âET Projectâ and that the device would be of a similar size to the GameBoy Advance, featuring a liquid-crystal display and allowing gamers to download games from a special kiosk within a shop to a âMemoryStickâ device.

The article went on to claim that both Capcom and Square had shown strong interest in developing for the format, and that both developers had created material to show for the format.

Unfortunately the decision was made to focus on the forthcoming launch of the Playstation2; however weâre certainly led to believe that the PSP may feature some of the ideas left behind on the cutting-floor. From the briefest of information thatâs been shared on the PSP, weâre hoping that it will truly open the way for new forms of media distribution and connectivity to other devices â“ indeed VAIO owners should be able to trade music/movie files with the platform, whilst connectivity with other Sony devices such as the AIBO and HandyCam series have all been mooted.

lol an 80 gb psp is not possible unless they use ssd hard drives which cost sh*t loads to buy independantly maybe you should get used to dreaming, though if they stop making any games for it or make a psp that could only get games from the ps3 then y... [ Read full comment... ]

UMD already dead. Sony has nothing to lose by adding
SD stuff on the Blu-ray discs for PSP viewing.

good point but i think i would only pay about $250 and not bother with the touch screen.with mobile tec in there you could play games over the net any time any where but only at a reasonable price of course.

Sony should have added a 40 or 80 gig internal hard drive like the ipod to the psp instead of making it thinner and lighter! With the extra space it would be
