Sony surprises everybody by committing to a worldwide PS3 launch...
As widely expected Sony today released further details on the Playstation 3, surprising everybody in the process by committing to a simultaneous worldwide launch in November 2006.
Claiming to be able to manufacture one million units a month, Sony claims to be confident of creating more then enough units to supply the expected demand for the format along with a powerful launch of titles.
Further details on the Blu-ray Disc (BD) have also emerged, enabling the playback of BD software at a high bit rate. BD can store up to 50GB and offer robust security measures.
The Playstation3 is compatible with a vast array of televisions, from standard definition to full high-definition TVs, though Sony did not mention whether this still includes the fabled 1080p.
Connecting via a Gigabit Ethernet PS3 users can connect to a high-speed broadband network, and enjoy a wide range of rich and exciting content and services over the network; though once again Sony refused to commit to rumours of the Playstation HUB service.
