nVIDIA man reveals more details about the PlayStation3’s Graphical power, amongst other things…
For the past month, weâve been following the latest news on the PlayStation3âs GPU, which has been developed by nVIDIA â“ something that we first reported on way back in 2003. In a recent interview with X-Bit Labs, nVIDIAâs Vice President of Corporate Marketing, David Roman revealed some more details about the next-gen GPU, with some titbits of information proving to be most intriguing.
As well as confirming that the GPU will be custom-built for the PS3, Roman announced that it was the next-generation following the GeForce 6 series and would be utilising DirectX 9 and Shader Models 3 making it, ââ¦the most feature-rich, the most powerful GPU that weâve ever created actually, when it comes out.â
The fact that the GPU will make use of DirectX is sure to be a blessing for developers as it will make programming less complex for the PS3 than it has proved to be with the previous two incarnations of Sonyâs home console.
Itâs also worth noting that Roman admitted that Sony were not referring to their next-gen console as âPlayStation3â, and whilst this might set the forums alight with various suggestions itâs worth noting that he only refers to the full title of âPlayStation3â and not the abbreviated âPS3.â
