Australian MP fights to ban Project Gotham Racing 2 from shop shelves in Australia...

It seems as though the Australians have a problem with videogames, barely a couple of years after the GTA3 debacle it has emerged that âProject Gotham Racing 2â has come under the politicians scrutiny.

Yes you read that correctly, a videogame that contains no sight of guns or violence has been criticised because it apparently sends out the wrong message to young people.

The game challenges players to race in some of the finest sports cars ever created against a variety of real-life locations, including Sydney Australia. However this seems to be too close to reality for State Labour MP Paul Gibson, who intends to take the matter up with the Office of Film and Literature Classification, which approves games for sale in Australia and their guidance ratings.

"This game sends the wrong message to young people. It is actually glorifying speed and power," Mr Gibson said. "It is clearly an inappropriate depiction of speed behaviour. If I had my way I would ban it."
When confronted with the fact that no research into how racing games affect the attitudes of young drivers had been undertaken, Gibson chimed in with the classic "It's better to be safe than sorry.â
Xbox Marketing Manager Nick Segger was keen to point out that itâs not about driving on the streets and that races are blocked from other traffic and pedestrians in the game â“ a hard task considering youâll never see a pedestrian in the entire game!

Weâll have more information on the situation soon; weâve recently reviewed âProject Gotham Racing 2â to check out what you might be missing please click the link.
