GoW on PC gets an early November release with a host of new features for Epic's shooter...
According to reports from Shacknews, Gears of War on PC will be in US shops on November 6th. Assuming a simultaneous release in Europe, that would mean it should be on our shelves on November 9th.
PC gamers will be pleased to hear that there's a whole range of new features for the PC version. There will be five new chapters for the single player game, which can be started from the end of Act 5 (where GoW on Xbox 360 ended).
There are five new multiplayer maps (the game will also include all the Xbox 360 map packs as well), a game editor, a battle with the Brumak leviathan and a new 'King of the Hill' multiplayer mode (which is similar to the Annex mode on the Xbox 360).
As for the chances of this extra PC content coming back to the Xbox 360, the outlook is bleak. Epic Producer, Rod Fergusson, said: "Putting that content back on the Xbox 360 would be a huge hurdle." A point echoed by Cliff Bleszinski, Epic's Director on Gears of War: "Quite frankly, we want there to be other reasons to buy the PC version."
Epic have also been spending a lot of time on the Unreal 3 Engine that powers GoW to ensure that it's scalable for PCs. In other words, hopefully you won't need enough hardware to direct an inter continental ballistic missile in order to play.
