Scripted short shows and movies set to make an appearance on Xbox 360 from the Autumn...
After launching Xbox Live Video Marketplace in North America and parts of Europe (even if it is a very limited service over here), it seems that Microsoft is turning to producing original programming for the service, with speculation that it could be released this Autumn.
Based about short movies/TV shows of less than 10 minutes, a production deal for the programming has been signed with Safran Company, with established filmmakers targeted to develop and produce the shows - though A-List actors aren't expected to feature.
News of the agreement comes from the New York Times, which spoke to the head of the Safran Company, Peter Safran. Discussing the move, and why downloadable video content works where past attempts by Microsoft has failed, Safran stated, "The Xbox is unique. It operates at a level outside of what we generally consider Web entertainment."
TVG contacted Microsoft about the move, and whether the programming will also be released outside the United States. In a statement, a representative said: "We have not announced specifics on where any content would be available, timing, or pricing."
