Codemasters today announced that Operation Flashpoint: Resistance, the expansion pack to the award winning PC tactical shooter, is due for release on June 28th for a RRP of £19.99.
The game is set before the events of the original title and takes place on an all-new 100km2 island. Casting players as Victor Troska, an experienced ex-Special Forces soldier. Having turned his back on his military past, Troska has settled into a respectable civilian life on the island of Nogova, a short distance from the original gameās three islands. However, his situation changes when the Soviet force invades the island group and destroys Troska's idyllic dreams of a peaceful retirement.
Reluctant at first to return to a conflict situation, he is forced to participate in, and then lead, the ramshackle Resistance effort, which grows up in response to the Soviet occupation of the island.
Playing as a resistance soldier offers a unique experience, as gamers have to scavenge for weapons and equipment. As the game is played in a time before the US Army and its resources came to the islands, players have to scavenge equipment from whatever sources they can manage.
Gamers take the role of Troska throughout Resistance and the all the events in the campaign are closely linked. As players progress, the amount of equipment, ammunition and fellow soldiers persists from one mission to another. Tactical use of supplies comes into play as gamers attempt to grow forces through gaining new recruits and gathering equipment, in order to build an army powerful enough to repel the Soviets.
In addition to the new campaign, the expansion offers enhanced network code, incorporating an in-game server browser system and completely overhauled communication code for better multiplayer performance. The visuals have also been enhanced to support the latest 3D cards, which will allow you to utilise the new high-resolution textures and improved character models.
Weāll have a review very soon, until then check out these new screens.
