One Million PS3 Units Shipped In North America News

Sony confirms shipping figures for the next-gen system across the pond.


Sony has today confirmed that one million units of PlayStation3 were shipped across North America by the end of 2006, meeting its much reduced target. In an interview with Reuters, President of Sony Computer Entertainment America, Jack Tretton, confirmed that the target had been met by diverting units from Japan to North America...

Global figures are yet to be released by the Corporation, but it was originally hoped that four million PlayStation 3s would be shipped worldwide by the end of 2006 - a number that was subsequently scaled back to two million. Enterbrain, the parent company of publication Famitsu, is suggesting that up to half a milion PlayStation 3s were sold in Japan by the end of 2006.

The Corporation now hopes to ship up to six million PlayStation 3s around the world by March 31st, and had confirmed (once again) that a March launch for PS3 in Europe remains on course.

lol it wont happen in 9 years, i take it youve been asleep for quite a while as the rest of the world knows there is a resession going on and people are less likely to buy new stuff as they dont know how long before there place of work shuts down cau... [ Read full comment... ]

this a good thing over 9 yrs it will happen folk wiil soon tire of wii's and the xbox(which is nearly all shooters, fun 4 a while, but ps3 does more in all ways

lol just how does sony expect the ps3 to sell more than the ps2 is a bit dumb considering the ps2 is still selling bucket loads across the world and with 120 more titles expected to hit the ps2 this year is it a real objective to shift over 140 milli... [ Read full comment... ]

not true. mine jumped 50 to 100 and i have had no problems since the update. i just hope that theres patches coming out for trophies soon...
